Our purpose

Travel with responsibility

Tourism has the power to impact the places we visit. We believe that impact should be positive.

Born from the transition from Macaneta Beach Resort to Macaneta Beach Eco Resort, Coração de Eco Terra represents a commitment to doing tourism differently: a place where travel becomes an opportunity to learn, to connect, to give back and to leave a positive footprint.

We exist to promote sustainable tourism and responsible travel by helping travellers understand and respect the environment, culture and communities of Macaneta. We want every person who visits to leave with a greater appreciation for this extraordinary place, and an understanding that the privilege of travelling comes with a responsibility to protect the places and people that make each destination unique.

Our approach recognises that a healthy environment and a healthy community are inseparable. Protecting the land means caring for the people who live on it. Empowering communities means creating a future in which they can become active stewards of their environment.

Travel should not simply leave memories behind. It should leave something positive behind.

When we take care of the environment and the communities around us, they take care of us.

Our place

Where the ocean meets the river

Macaneta is more than a beach destination. It is a living ecosystem where the Indian Ocean meets the Inkomati River, where mangroves, waterways, forests, beaches and communities exist alongside one another, interconnected and dependent on one another.

To protect Macaneta, we must understand it. To understand it, we must educate. And through education, we can inspire people to become stewards of the place they call home.

Redefining our footprint

From positive footprint to positive impact

We often think of a footprint as something we leave behind. At Coração de Eco Terra, a traveller's footprint can be more than carbon emissions, waste or the consumption of natural resources. It can be:

  • A child learning to protect a mangrove
  • A beach becoming cleaner
  • A tree being planted
  • A school receiving the resources it needs
  • A community receiving a nourishing meal
  • A child discovering mindfulness and their own wellbeing
  • A guest learning something that changes how they travel
  • A visitor returning home to live more responsibly
  • A partnership creating opportunities that wouldn't exist

This is the positive footprint we want tourism to leave behind.

Our vision

Sustainable tourism can be a force for positive change.

We want to create a model that can inspire other businesses, communities and destinations to adopt similar approaches, proving that conservation, community development, human wellbeing and tourism can work together.

Macaneta is our starting point. We want to nurture a culture of environmental and social stewardship that grows from Macaneta and reaches across Mozambique.
